Engineered Wood

Flooring made of engineered wood has a solid hardwood appearance. It is constructed from a layer of premium-grade plywood bonded by a microthin layer of hardwood. The flooring has dimensional stability thanks to the plywood. There are three to nine layers in the sturdy plywood core. The average lifespan of a high-quality engineered wood floor is 25 to 30 years.

The veneer top of engineered wood cannot be severely sanded. The veneer will eventually wear through even several gentle sandings. However, because its plywood core maintains its dimensional stability even when wet, it is better than solid wood. The cross-hatched plies of the core withstand the forces that harm the single-direction grain of solid wood.
